Ibrahim Traoré, a Burkinabé military officer, currently holds the position of interim leader as the President of the Transition of Burkina Faso.

The Government of Ghana publicly accused Traoré of collaborating with the Wagner Group after the coup and employing their services against jihadist rebels.
However, Traoré refuted these claims, stating that the “Wagner” they referred to were the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP).
On July 29, 2023, Traoré announced support for Russia, and the reopening of the Russian embassy closed since 1992.
